Case-based learning (CBL) is an inquiry-based pedagogical approach that prepares students and doctors
for clinical practice through authentic cases to develop their clinical decision-making skills. It has been
implemented in various pre-clinical and clinical settings.
This approach to learning medicine showcases clinical case scenarios on a microsite or on a landing
page. These case study may have MCQ and provide a discussion forum which learners can debate and
share their views. The focus is not just on knowledge acquisition but also on the acquisition of important
skills for clinical work such as critical thinking and problem solving, teamwork, communication, and
lifelong learning.
Based on requirements we can create different models for case-based learning.
We can introduce classroom based small groups consisting of 9-10 students and one faculty facilitator
that twice a week. Groups stay together for 12 weeks and then change. Changing groups facilitates
teamwork skills in joining new teams like the changing teams that students will experience during their
clinical work.
We may also list the case study for learners to study and then can give a case-based problem. This may
not be in a group format but open for participation. One case can be for learning, while another one
may be for collecting views and thoughts from different learners.
How case studies help in engagement and learning
01
Build evidence-based practice
• Understand clinical diagnoses, treatments and outcomes scientific method • Helps to improve practice over a period
02
Learn from mentors
• Understand how experienced and top doctors use a therapy to treat disease • Learn from experienced doctors, peer education
03
Debate and discuss
• Science is about experiments, and debates and discussions to arrive at unanimous conclusion
04
Participation & engagement
• Drive engagement, via discussion and forums, polls, and case study submissions • Long term activity with multiple engagements with HCPs
Why online case studies on docmode
Already registered pool of HCPs
• DocMode already has a pool of more than 2,00.000 doctors on its learning platform, who can also engage in the online case study engagement campaign • Already spending time on the platform for learning and attending live lectures
Get more participants
• Been online helps to get more participants not only from tier 1 cries but also from rural areas. • Can drive participants to participate In case study discussions, polls, MCQs, etc. Online models helps to build agility, so we can launch new engagement activities, help to track user behaviors.
Participation
• HCPs can participate by submitting case studies for peer reviews, get suggestions from industry stalwarts and learn.
Branding opportunity
• Sponsoring company has the opportunity to brand as an education partner or sponsor grants. • Can create a microsite with branding
