This year the President has approved conferment of 128 Padma Awards 2022 including 2 duo cases (in a duo case the Award is counted as one) as per list below. The list comprises Padma Vibhushan 17 Padma Bhushan and 107 Padma Shri Awards.
3 of the awardees are women and the list also includes 10 persons from the category of ForeignersNRIPIOOCI and 13 Posthumous awardees.
While there are no doctors in the name of Padma Vihushan and Padma Bhushan Vaccine makers Cyrus Poonawalla Krishna Ella and Suchitra Ella have been named for Padma Bhushan which is the third highest civilian award in India after Bharat Ratna and Padma Vihushan.
While Poonawalla Serum Institute of India manufactured Covid19 vaccine Covishield the Ella Duos Bharat Biotech produced Indias indigenous coronavirus vaccine Covexin.
The following doctors have been named Padma Awards 2022
1) Dr. Himmatrao Bawaskar Maharashtra A 71-year-old Indian doctor from Malad Dr. Himmatrao Bawaskar is world-renowned for her pioneering research on what died from a red scorpion sting. His repeated publications on this issue through case studies in various journals have attracted the interest of the international medical community on the subject. For the past 10 years he has worked at a medical center in the Mahad district of Raigad – Maharashtra focusing on saving locals and trial people from being poisoned by scorpions and snakeites. 2) Dr Prokar Dasgupta UK Dr Prokar Dasgupta Professor and Chair of the Department of Urology at King’s College London is a pioneer in the field of robotic surgery. He has many early achievements in the field including the first randomized controlled trial of robotic urology as well as being the founder of what is known as the “Dasgupta technique” , a method of Botox injection into the ladder wall using a cystoscope. . His team is recognised internationally for Guy’s robotic cystoprostatectomy technique for bladder cancer and is the leading European group amongst the International Robotic Cystectomy Consortium (IRCC). He was the first to Use of da Vinci root to perform keyhole surgery as part of kidney transplant.
3) Dr Lata Desai Gujarat 80 year old Dr Lata and her husband Dr Anil left their life in the US and came back to dedicate their lives to rural development. In 1980 they founded Society for Education Welfare and ActionRural (SEWA Rural) in Jhagadia Bharuch. The society runs various programmes for health and welfare for the rural population in the area including a 200 bedded Kasturba Hospital serving patients from 3000odd villages as well as neighboring states. health training eye checkup Mahila Vikas society and many more.
4) Doctor Vijaykumar Vinayak Dongre Known for his work in treating leprosy Dr. Dongre has dedicated his life to the fight against leprosy in urban and rural areas of Maharashtra.
5) Doctor Narendra Prasad Misra (later) Madhya Pradesh One of the oldest doctors in Madhya Pradesh the late Narendra Prasad Misra was responsible for developing treatment regimens for the victims of the Bhopal gas tragedy. as well as of Covid19.
6) Dr. Sunkara Venkata Adinarayana Rao Andhra Pradesh 82 years old orthopedic surgeon Sunkara Venkata Adinarayana Rao is well known for his work with the poor, especially polio victims. As part of his Foundation for Free Polio Research and Surgery he has earned respect throughout India especially in northern India for his treatment of polio victims. He has performed over a thousand surgeries to date. He has won numerous awards during his six decades of service as a medical doctor
7) Doctor Veeraswamy Seshiah Renowned diabetes doctor from Tamil Nadu Dr Seshiah is the First Professor of Disease diabetes in India and was responsible for the establishment of India’s first diabetes department at Madras Medical College. He is the founding patron of the Gestational Diabetes Research Group in India. In the past he has also received many awards for his contributions in the field of Diabetes including the National Award Dr BC Roy
8) Dr Bhimsen Singhal A renowned neuroscientist of Maharashtra Dr. Bhimsen Singhal is the Director of Neurology at Bombay Hospital Institute of Health Sciences in Mumbai India. Prior to his appointment he was Professor Emeritus and Head of the Department of Neurology at Grant Medical College Mumbai. He has helped train more than 200 neurologists and has played a leading role in advancing neurology including multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and more. He discovered the Megalencephalic rain dystrophy entity with a specific genetic defect in the Agarwal community. In the past he has also received numerous awards for his contributions to the field of Neuroscience including the National Award for Dr BC Roy
9) Dr Balaji Tambe (post) Pioneer of Maharashtra in the field of Ayurveda Post-Ayurvedacharya Dr. Balaji Tame is known for bringing the field of Ayurveda and Yoga to the world. He is the founder and inspiration for all activities carried out in the village of Atmasantulana. A spiritual leader Dr Tame passed away last year at a private hospital in Pune on Tuesday after a minor illness
10) Dr Kamlakar Tripathi Uttar Pradesh MBBS MD (Medical) DM (Nephrology) and l Former Professor of Medicine Banaras Hindu University India.
